AWIS Palo Alto kicked off their 2014-2015 program season with a networking social at Tootsie’s, in Stanford Barn on September 24, 2014. In a relaxed atmosphere, professionals and academics, both veteran and new to AWIS, mingled over wine and appetizers. Attendees conversed about their new careers in clinical research and medical education. One professional chatted about the bar-coding technology company she works with, while another talked about her career in technical consulting. Sofie Kleppner, Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs at Stanford, fielded questions about resources her office offers to postdocs. With ideas for future AWIS events in mind, Reem Yunis (AWIS Palo Alto president), Ermelinda Porpiglia (events chair), and Ann Tang (newsletter/blog chair) circulated among the crowd of over 40 attendees to gauge their needs and interests.
